I'm a pharmacist, proudly holding a 5-year degree from 2017 (plus a 10-month thesis in medicinal chemistry, for anyone who’s counting), who, for still-to-be-clarified reasons, decided to trade pills for papers and embark on an academic career. Against all odds, the University of Padova awarded me a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences 4 years later, likely more for my impressive Spritz-drinking skills than for the quality of my antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). I stuck around in the same research group as a postdoc, keeping my hands busy with antibodies, proteins, and Campari (but not necessarily in that order or in two different hands). Two years later, I felt ready to leave the nest and join Nicola Tirelli's research group at IIT. Here, I’ve picked up a thing or two about microfluidics, 3D printing, and nanoparticle manufacturing—though let’s be real, I’m probably even better at stuffing myself with "trofie al pesto".
